Full weekday treatment — about 9am to 3pm, Monday through Friday — for when things have gotten serious but you don't need to move into a facility. You sleep in your own bed every night.
A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is the most intensive level of outpatient care available. Designed for individuals who need more support than traditional outpatient treatment but do not require 24-hour residential care, PHP provides a structured, full-day clinical environment 5 days per week. It's the most intensive of the rehab programs in Los Angeles we run from our Westwood outpatient center.
At Golden State Rehab, our PHP runs Monday through Friday from approximately 9am to 3pm, offering approximately 6 hours of therapeutic programming each day. Clients return home or to a sober living environment each evening, maintaining some connection to daily life while receiving the intensive support they need to stabilize and heal. If the unknown is part of what's holding you back, read what your first week of outpatient rehab actually looks like.

It depends on your plan — which is why we check your benefits before anything else. We accept most major insurance providers, and under federal parity law and California's SB 855, health plans must cover medically necessary care like PHP. Our admissions team contacts your insurer directly and explains exactly what your plan covers — before your first day. The verification is free, confidential, and doesn't commit you to anything.
PHP runs weekday hours, so we'll be straight with you: most clients take time away from work for this phase. Federal FMLA and California's CFRA generally give eligible employees the right to job-protected leave for a serious health condition. Evenings and weekends stay yours, and many clients step down to IOP — which has an evening track built around a full-time job — as they stabilize. For the practical details, read can I work while in rehab.
Not from us. Your records are protected by HIPAA and by 42 CFR Part 2 — a federal confidentiality rule written specifically for substance use treatment. We never contact your employer, and nothing is shared without your written consent outside of rare, legally required exceptions. Even a leave request doesn't have to name the reason — that stays between you and your doctor.
Maybe — and if it is, we'll tell you. A free, confidential assessment determines your level of care using clinical criteria, not sales targets. If IOP or weekly therapy fits better, that's what we'll recommend; if you need more support than outpatient care can provide, we'll say that too. Our guide to inpatient versus outpatient rehab explains where PHP sits.

Verify My InsuranceEvery day is purposefully structured to balance clinical depth with personal growth and community connection.
Begin each day grounded. Clients check in, set intentions, and connect with the group before the day's programming begins.
Private sessions with your primary therapist — the cornerstone of your personalized treatment plan.
CBT, DBT, or trauma-focused groups that teach practical coping tools for managing triggers, cravings, and emotions.
An open therapeutic group where clients share experiences, receive feedback, and build authentic community.
Rotating sessions in addiction education, mental health literacy, family systems, relapse prevention, and holistic wellness.
End each day centered. A brief mindfulness practice and group check-out reinforces the day's progress and sets the tone for evening.
PHP is the level of care most people have never heard of, and it is often the right middle ground between residential treatment and a weekly therapist. Our guide to inpatient versus outpatient rehab explains where it fits.
PHP is the recommended starting point for many clients because it provides the structure and clinical depth needed to break through initial denial, stabilize mental health symptoms, and develop a foundation of recovery skills.
Free, confidential assessment — if a different level of care fits better, we'll tell you honestly.
Many clients transition through multiple levels of care as they progress. Here's where PHP clients often go next.
